Mao is one of the original participants that underwent Antecedence through an incident relating to the Hidden Anthropomorphic Compound project, unwillingly contributing to the Saviand Anomaly.

As a Human

Mao plays a major part of the Red Cross and helping with injured patient with First Aid. He also gives advice on safety precautions on particular situations. Mao helps out in a lot situations, though sometimes awkwardly as he prioritizes safety than anything else.

Scarlet Flundere commonly goes to him instead when he gets injured in his adventures.

As a Typyl

Mao plays out as a doctor and health inspector with all of the Presav, checking in if there are any problems and gives them advice on maintaining health. Though founding out that the anatomy of the Typyl is way different that of a human's anatomy, which doesn't help as much at all. This has led for Mao to discover and research more of the Typyl, despite his lack of deep knowledge about them.

Knowing that the H.A.C. requires a “healing” role, Mao resiliently takes his favorite species' key and decides he should be the one doing it. Without knowing, it would ended up being like this anyway but is totally fine about it.
