Appearance

Pascal is a male piplup and is very similar to the average piplup in appearance. The only major difference from the average piplup is that he is 2 inches taller.

Character

Personality

Pascal is relatively friendly to others. He didn’t receive the ‘best-liked professor’ award for nothing. However, he is very passive aggressive and will reply with attitude if he is feeling angry or offended.

Education & Job

(2,3,9,11,12,20,35,36,46,78,99,108,130)
Although Pascal could understand the human language, his first hurdle was learning to speak. Pascal received his Ph.D. in Statistics at USJ (University of Sinnoh Jubilife). He was often underestimated and discriminated against, being a pokemon attending a human institution. He currently teaches at USSP (University of Sinnoh Snowpoint), relocated for his natural resistance of the cold at the request of the US board. After his initial exposure to Calculus, he realized and appreciated the real-world applications of math. He desired to learn more about math and decided to help the next generation learn to love math as well. His area of focus is statistics. He usually teaches lower division calculus, probability, and statistics.

In the classroom

(14,19)
As much as he enjoys teaching, both he and the students enjoy performing demonstrations. The physics demonstrations always manage to entertain the students. However, his favorite is when he renovates the classroom into a mini casino to study the probability in games. He teaches humans at a human institution and as such is the only pokemon faculty.

Early life

(8)
Pascal was hatched in Jubilife City. A family of three adopted the young piplup as an egg to be their son’s starter pokemon. As Gwin grew older he yearned for adventure, like many other pokemon trainers. Young Pascal was as passionate for battling as his trainer until the day he discovered another love. Pascal became hooked on learning and education over battling and spent most of his time studying Gwin’s academic material. When it was time for Gwin to leave on his journey, he left with a different starter pokemon due to Pascal’s passion for math and dislike of battle. With the young boy off exploring the region and the parents both working for the majority of the day, Pascal attended school in Gwin’s place.

Name

(29,66)
Up until this point in his life, he had been referred to as Piplup. He always wondered where his trainer Gwin disappeared to every week, gone for hours only to come home exhausted. Once he learned about the notion of school, curiosity led him to visit the facility. He was especially captivated by the notion of mathematics, this omnipresent principle that the world is governed by. He adopted his name after the mathematician Blaise Pascal in response to his newfound passion.

Age, Appearance, Evolution

(13,43,51,68,70,74,77,89,95,113,131,132)
Age and experience are independent systems. Although he looks quite young as a Piplup, Pascal is older than most people think. Due to a lack of battling, he has not evolved. He is quite happy as a Piplup, being smaller and more dexterous than his evolutions.

Battle History

(24,30,32)
Pascal does not enjoy battling; however, he does enjoy watching them. Pascal believes that he is inadequate for the battlefield due to his tendency to get carried away by his calculations and end up getting hit by incoming attacks. He had to deal with many trainers wanting to battle and catch him at the beginning of his academic career. Attempts slowly ceased as the community slowly recognized that he was pursuing education.

Coding

Pascal is not a computer scientist and as such he does not have a deep understanding about coding. He does not really understand why it works or all the mechanisms that makes it work. However, as a mathematician he does know how to code in some languages. He does know how to use Matlab, Python, R, and Latex. To be honest, he has only learned the basics of coding, as required in his degree, and the rest he has learned on his own from by googling.

Projects & Consulting

  • (41) Education with limited resources
  • (33) M&M ratios
  • (7,16) Robotics

Non-Math Questions

(34,45,63,69,79,98,132,136,137,138,139,150,158,159)
Pascal often gets asked questions outside of his discipline and even his field. He gets irked at such questions because he doesn’t know the answer and is not qualified to give a satisfactory response. However, he has a basic understanding of many different topics because of his consulting work, albeit at a shallow level. Nevertheless, he always ends his responses with a suggestion to google since he is not an expert on these subjects.
